Pioneering Sustainable Practices: Our Journey Towards a Greener Future

At Orlando Reid, sustainability isn't just a goal - it's our guiding principle. With a strong presence in major cities like London and Manchester, we're deeply committed to fostering healthier and greener communities. Aligned with the Government’s net zero carbon targets, we're strongly committed to reducing our direct and indirect carbon emissions in our operations.

Our Business Model and Targets

We've set ambitious targets to zero our carbon emissions by 2035, emphasising the need for immediate and drastic emission reductions. This commitment drives our daily operations and informs our strategic decisions.

But our dedication to sustainability extends beyond reducing emissions. We're integrating sustainability considerations into our daily operations, even extending this to our supply chain, ensuring that we procure equipment from sustainable sources–because if we're going to tackle climate change, we need to make wise choices every step of the way.

By following the outline of the Climate Change Action Plan 2020-25, we implement specific actions to reduce emissions and support our community in achieving its climate change ambitions. From energy-efficient practices to promoting sustainable options, we're dedicated to making tangible progress toward our goals.

Sustainable Transportation

One of our key initiatives is promoting sustainable transportation options among our team members, getting around without adding to traffic and emissions. That's our goal. We encourage our team to hop on public transport for most journeys and offer incentives to cycle to work. This helps reduce congestion and supports the city's transportation network, making it easier for everyone to get around efficiently and sustainably. In addition to reducing carbon emissions, cycling offers numerous benefits for both individuals and the environment.

To incentivise this green transportation choice, we offer various incentives for staff who choose to cycle to work.

Preferred Parking for Cyclists: Dedicated parking spaces or secure bike storage areas are provided for cyclists, making it convenient and safe for staff to park their bicycles at the workplace.

Wellness and Fitness Benefits: Cycling to work promotes physical activity and contributes to overall health and well-being. To support this, we offer additional wellness or fitness benefits for staff members who regularly cycle to work.

By encouraging sustainable commuting habits like cycling, we not only reduce our environmental footprint but also foster a culture of health, wellness, and community engagement among our team members.

Sustainable Property Management

We prioritise energy efficiency in our properties, advising homeowners and landlords on upgrades and optimisations to reduce energy consumption. Renewable energy is the way forward, and we're all in. Whether it's solar or other renewable sources, we're passionate about reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.  Minimising waste through reuse and recycling and ensuring that materials are repurposed and given a second life whenever possible are a few things we do to achieve sustainable operations.

We're also big on encouraging tenants to switch to cleaner energy options– together, we're making a tangible difference and paving the way for a greener, more environmentally conscious future.

Community Engagement

Addressing climate change requires collective action. That's why we actively engage with our community to facilitate outreach and coordination. Through collaborative efforts, we aim to amplify our impact and inspire positive change in our offices and communities.

2024: Progress and Projections

As of 2024, we have made significant strides towards our sustainability goals. Through dedicated efforts and strategic initiatives, we've successfully reduced our carbon emissions by 75%, positioning us on track to achieve our immediate target of 80% reduction within the next few years. Looking ahead, we remain steadfast in our commitment to sustainability, with plans to reach 100% carbon neutrality by 2035.
